An Open Apology to the FOSS community at OFTC 11/6/07.
I can say for certain I have crossed the line of reason at times. I would like to apologize to you collectively for that.
Not being aware of who all these nicks are attached to - I cannot be certain that I am doing any of you a service or making any friends. And I don’t expect really that that’s how it would go anyway.
What I will say is that through talking things out with some people significantly older and wiser than I am - I have come to the conclusion that I have misplaced a lot of anger for the wrong things with the wrong people - and acted without evidence or clear judgement on a number of things.
And through those actions / words / selected thoughts - I have crossed a lot of people.
All I can hope for is a more balanced future - and a more balanced way of carrying out day to day conversations with the very real people in a very real universe of interesting places, things and conversations.
I have made the error of issuing personal judgements on certain members of the community based on what my standards of normalcy from my viewpoint which has only seen about 1/3 of the United States and part of Canada. Which means in terms of allowing myself to understand other cultural norms has been challenging.
(not sure if I phrased a complete sentence there.)
To phrase it better - I have been influenced by Mass Media - which has fairly well brainwashed me into following a set of customary guidelines and rules for interacting with people that has discounted any other world view as having any kind of impact on how things might be managed for the betterment of humanity.
That doesn’t mean I am not responsible for my choices - associations - friendships - or contacts.
And especially my creations or things I have taken apart. Or things I have made attempts to create - or take apart.
And so I plan to issue retractions / and removals of data from the internet over the course of the next few days - which state exactly this - and make it clear that I cannot exist in an empty space. I need to have people to connect with - that are of the caliber of the people in several IRC networks - including Freenode and OFTC - and that regardless of their decision to accept or reject this attempt to make ammends - I will stand by my concern for the expression that I have made severe errors in judgement at times - and am well willing to accept that I not only lost 4 good months worth of progress information in the FOSS world - I also lost friends - peers - and advocates in the process.
With that said - I will sign my name to this - step outside for a few minutes - collect the complete content of what I have posted here - and move on.
Thank you for your hospitality to this point - Sincerely, Christopher J. Bradley - http://www.noisecontrolpublishing.com
